Linux Support

Our Support Value

The Linux operating system is thriving, but finding quality, predictable, and responsive support for the different distributions of Linux can be challenging. Additionally, Red Hat™ customers on aging distributions may find themselves boxed in as they watch their support features disappear while their support fees remain the same. And SuSE© users may not know what to expect from their vendor support after the multiple corporate mergers that have taken place over the years. Luckily, PARSEC can help! We offer expert Linux support at a lower cost, and with a support staff who have freshly used skills, even on very old versions of Red Hat, CentOS, SuSE, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Rocky, Debian, Ubuntu, Slackware, Archlinux, and Fedora Linux. Our support technicians have Linux training, professional certifications, and experience going back to 1993.

Did you know...

Red Hat's lower support tiers don't allow telephone calls to support. Are you comfortable relying on that during a 3:00AM outage?

Red Hat's extended-life support phase does not offer security errata, minor revision point releases, software enhancements, or updated installation images

Oracle Linux is free to use, and package updates & patch repository are freely available

PARSEC supports ALL versions of Linux, no matter how old and no matter what distribution. Yes, we are that confident in our Linux support team!

So, why continue to pay expensive Linux software maintenance costs for support from the vendor?

No matter what type of servers you operate, providing expert OS support is what we do. Supporting Linux is no exception. Our team can easily adapt and understand your environment and offer you unmatched technical service.

PARSEC Linux support covers these areas, and much more:

  • Build and installation problems
  • Logical Volume Manager support
  • File system support for Ext, XFS, and BTRFS
  • System recovery using dump, filesystem image, or tar backups
  • TSEC C2 security and Linux's enhanced user security & PAM
  • Role based access control
  • Kickstart© and YAST network installation services
  • Complex network configurations including LACP, PEGP (Etherchannel), and stacked VLAN setups
  • SAN boot, multipathing, NPIV configuration
  • Storage multipathing with multipathd and 3rd party tools like EMC Powerpath
  • Virtualization interoperation support for KVM, Xen©, VMware, OpenVZ, LXC©, and Docker©

We also support a limited number of product overlays for Linux including Red Hat Cluster©, HP Serviceguard©, and Veritas Volume Manager©.

Linux Patching Capabilities

Vendors typically stop producing patches for end-of-life operating systems, even for critical issues. If you are faced with this or a similar issue, we can provide key fixes and patches that may not be available for end-of-life versions. These patches can be provided for key services such as Secure Shell, which usually cannot be disabled as a workaround for a critical flaw. We have the expertise to create new base OS (BOS) packages for Linux, so long as a code-fix is freely available, to cover these issues and provide a real fix to older Linux systems.

Here is a list of issues for which PARSEC can provide internally sourced non-vendor replacement patches for critical vulnerabilities. Note that this list covers (more than) all default Linux network services:

  • Secure Shell
  • Network Time Protocol
  • Telnet, rsh, rlogin, and rexec (though customers should really migrate these to SSH, since these are unencrypted services anyway)
  • Talk, ntalk, and writesrv
  • Sendmail
  • SNMP
  • inetd and its internal services

We specifically cannot provide patches for these situations:

  • Kernel patches for proprietary features or drivers
  • Most local-only privilege escalation issues
  • Vendor or 3rd party drivers
  • Linux-specific proprietary software where no open source analog or public source code exists.
